The mountains are calling and we must go.
Brown mountain is a great place to get away from it all. And Rye Spur feels even more remote. Join us on a group ride where we will ride the Brown Mountain trail from the north trailhead to the south trailhead and back. You can find the routes here and here. This is a rolling intermediate level trail of 7.5 miles each way (total of 15 miles round trip). This trail will give you the feeling that you are in the middle of nowhere. Blasting away on winding ribbons of loamy trail through old growth forest. When we finish the final decent and meet back at the van, you wont be able to wipe that smile off of your face.
We will head to the Fish Lake Cafe for some lunch. Hint: The burgers are amazing!
Then its off to the Rye Spur trail. The route is 10 miles and starts with a little less than five miles of climbing the gravel road. Here’s where it gets fun. Turning onto the single track the trail is a rolling climb to the top with some fun fast sections. At the peak you will experience views that make you feel like you are on top of the world. Looking south you will see the Mountain Lakes Wilderness, then turning west the views extend all the way to Klamath Lake and beyond. Your next step will be to point that front wheel downhill, and try to contain your excitement. Because you will be hooping and hollering the whole way down. Turn after turn this trail will keep you smiling all the way back to the van.
We will meet at Zach’s Bikes at 8:30 am and leave by 9:00 am.
You will need some kind of mountain bike, full suspension or hard tail. If you don’t have a bike or would like to demo one of Trek’s 2019 full suspension or hardtail bikes, this year’s demo fleet includes the Fuel EX and Slash and Procaliber. Zach’s Bikes is offering this service free of charge. Call 541-851-9200 to reserve a demo after you have RSVP’d for the ride. Please note that this is available based on availability and the rental contract terms. If you take advantage of this demo service, allow plenty of time prior to the ride for proper set up.
Hope to see you there!
